What is Matrixyl® Synthe'6?

Matrixyl® Synthe'6 is a peptide serum with anti-aging benefits, developed by Sederma. Peptides are “strings of amino acids that are ‘building blocks’ for proteins.”

History of Matrixyl Synthe'6

Sederma was founded in 1964 and is known as a world leader in developing active ingredients used in cosmetics through biotechnology, vegetal extraction, plant cell culture and molecular synthesis.

Matrixyl®, was launched in 2000, and uses “a series of anti-wrinkle actives that comprise Matrikine, a peptide that aids the proper functioning of many components of the skin's structure.” According to Depology: all forms of Matrixyl are derived from Methionine Sulfone and Lysine: Lipopeptides, which occur when Amino Acids are mixed with Fatty Acids.

According to matrixylinside.com “Matrixyl® is a range of active ingredients that mirror the natural process of skin regeneration. These biomimetic peptides stimulate the production of skin components like collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, resulting in scientifically proven anti-ageing effects.”

Matrixyl 3000™, was introduced in 2003 and has been described as a hydrating ingredient that also combats visible signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. Matrixyl 3000 includes two matrikines, Pal-GHK and Pal-GQPR.

Matrixyl® Synthe'6 was released in 2012 and is marketed as an aid in regulating cell activity, remodeling collagen tissue, and assisting in wound repair.

Matrixyl® Synthe'6

Matrixyl Synthe’6, also called Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, works in a similar way to Matrixyl 3000™, but additionally it works to target 6 skin rebuilding essentials. They are:
  • Collagen I – The main collagen component of skin.
  • Collagen III – The type of collagen that is first present in the very early stages of tissue repair.
  • Collagen IV – The collagen responsible for smoothing skin at a cellular level.
  • Fibronectin A – A protein that stimulates repair of tissue.
  • Hyaluronic Acid – Improves skin hydration, elasticity, and moisture.
  • Laminin-5 – Strengthens and smooths the dermis.

In 2013, researchers at Reading University in the UK found that Matrixyl can almost double the amount of protein collagen needed for skin elasticity.
