What We Mean When We Say Safe for Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin, you know how stressful it can be to try new products. Even when they promise that they are safe for sensitive skin, things like added fragrances and skin irritants can cause sensitive skin to react.
When Denise Dubois formulated Dubois Beauty, she wanted to make sure that every product would be safe for sensitive skin. In order to ensure this, we do sensitivity testing over a four-week period. Since we don't do animal testing, we work with a lab to do clinical testing. For each product, we have 50 people use the product and record their daily experience.
How we test for skin sensitivity
Our partner lab did a patch test on clean, dry, skin. They did a total of 10 test. A first test to see if there was a reaction to any products after being on the skin for 48 hours, and then nine more tests with the product on for 24 hours. The lab tests found no reaction to the products.
So people with sensitive skin can feel safe with the Dubois Beauty product line - even our anti-aging products with active ingredients. If you are still interested in doing your own skin sensitivity test, we encourage you to do what you feel most comfortable with!
Do your own skin sensitivity test
The American Academy of Dermatology Association recommends the following steps:
- Apply product to the same place twice a day for 7-10 days
- Leave product on for as long as you would normally (e.g. wash off a cleanser, leave on a moisturizer)
- if you see no reaction after 7-10 days, it should be safe to use the product
